The ABC’s of DE, Vol. 2

Much like Sleepy LaBeef, our last regularly featured artist, Dave Edmunds loves covering older tunes.

Here’s one of my faves, written by Bob Seger. It’s from his seventh album, “Seven,” which came out in 1974. Dave covered it three years later, storming through it 30 seconds faster than Seger did.

“Get Out of Denver,” Dave Edmunds, from “Get It,” 1977.

This album is a typical DE production, and one of his best.

Dave handles all the vocals and most of the instruments, with a little help from his pals in Rockpile, most notably Nick Lowe on bass and Terry Williams on drums. I can’t say exactly who’s on this cut, though. The liner notes aren’t that specific.

Oh, yeah. The greatest song about driving, ever. Didn’t know anybody’d ever covered it. Still prefer the Seger version though.
