Sleepy Sunday, Vol. 16

We’ve heard Sleepy LaBeef, national treasure, cover Chuck Berry before. It never gets old.

I dig today’s tune no matter who does it. Chuck Berry. The Beatles. The Sonics. Mountain. ELO. It’s a great cut to hear anywhere, anytime.

This tune rocketed onto the airwaves in 1956, declaring the dominance of rock ‘n’ roll. Things ain’t never been the same.

Sleepy was anything but sleepy when he recorded this version on May 2, 1977, at Singleton Sound Studio in Nashville.

“Roll Over Beethoven,” Sleepy LaBeef, 1977, from “A Rockin’ Decade,” 1990.
