As you know, we take requests at AM, Then FM, and today we’re delighted to fulfill one for Sleepy LaBeef, national treasure.
Or, in the case of today’s request, Sleepy LaBeef, international treasure.
The request comes from Graeme in Aberdeen, Scotland, “way up on the northeast coast.”
Graeme said last week’s Sleepy Sunday selection reminded him of “his marvellous song ‘Boogie At The Wayside Inn,’ which I heard on Andy Kershaw’s much-missed BBC Radio 1 show many years ago … a classic!”
So here you go, Graeme, recorded live in 1985, a tale involving Captain Marvel funny books, a Gene Autry guitar and how a young boy gets to boogie. It’s 8 minutes, 8 seconds of Sleepy’s baritone telling the story over relentlessly chugging guitars.
“Boogie at the Wayside Lounge,” Sleepy LaBeef, from “Nothin’ But the Truth,” 1987.
