Sleepy Sunday, Vol. 36

Digging around last week for just the right tune for those newlyweds, Whiteray and the Texas Gal, this one had the right title but the wrong message.

Today, Sleepy LaBeef, national treasure, covers another Big Joe Turner tune.

Today, Sleepy has the blues. The slow blues. Written by Lou Willie Turner, today’s tune was released on Atlantic in 1954 as the flip side to “Shake, Rattle and Roll.”

Sleepy’s mournful baritone is nicely counterbalanced by Dave Keyes’ work on the piano.
