“The Runaways,” starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie.
Premiering March 11 in Los Angeles, March 17 in New York, March 18 at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and who knows when — if at all — in our corner of Wisconsin.
I also wonder …
A) Whether my 15-year-old son and his friends will be interested in seeing this.
B) And if so, what they’ll think of it.

I suspect that the original appeal of the Runaways should have the same effect on 15 year old boys, that it did back in the day.
I liked The Runaways and played their stuff at the college radio station. I even have a 45 of “Since You Been Gone” by Cherie and Marie Currie in my collection.
It’s too bad Joan Jett and the girls didn’t get more exposure, they could have been really big. JJ and the Blackhearts made it to where The Runaways should have gone.
I am interested in seeing this movie. I heard about casting a while ago and then nothing. Thanks for the trailer, info, and the cut of “Cherry Bomb.” It’s piqued my curiosity.
I’m really looking forward to it as well. Cherie Currie’s twin sister, Marie, married Toto guitarist Steve Lukather. They’ve long since divorced (his 1997 solo album, Luke is largely the musical result of that divorce– great stuff on that one) but Marie & Steve’s son, Trevor has followed in his father and Aunt Cherie’s footsteps. He’s a decent songwriter/guitarist/vocalist in his own right (his voice is reminiscent of a young version of Christian singer, Michael W. Smith).
Thanks a TON for this info—recently “re-found” the Runaways, great stuff. & yeah, they should have had more exposure…maybe the film will spur more interest, better late than never I suppose.
